Chie Aoki’s sculptures are very mysterious and so is the artist. There’s a complete loss of identity in the glistening black faceless forms. Aoki is an exception to the rule that an artist has to have information, a website, and gallery exhibitions that are available to peruse online, instead there is hardly a trace of the artist’s identity available the web. This unusual lack of a significant online presence seems to continue the underlying theme of these beautiful sculptures; that they are a mystery and the work speaks itself.

Nugroho’s life-size resin sculptures of gun-toting human figures in flower suits are unnerving at a first glance. Rebels or enemies in unlikely disguises, these characters elicit a mixed reaction of fear and surprise, even laughter. Combining text and images, Nugroho’s elaborate tapestries put a surreal, folkloric spin on propaganda art. Ok CSUN, I believe tonight was my last night of sitting the Art Gallery. It has been so great and have learned so much. I will miss this great place but I am excited to come to the openings after my graduation and see the amazing works by new students specially the new MA students. It is going to be amazing and have no doubt about it.

Anyway, the Annual Student Jurried how will continue until this coming Saturday from 12-4pm. Make sure to visit it before that day because so many great work are on display now by our own students.

The next show will be our thesis exhibition and again, there will many many great works by my friends.
Opening reception is on Friday May 11th from 4-7pm and we also have open studios at the same time of the opening reception. :)
